Why We Teach American Sign Language: Part Three
July 13th, 2010Why We Teach American Sign Language: Part Two
July 6th, 2010Last week in Part 1 of our series, we discussed why American Sign Language (ASL) is so valuable to our students as a vehicle to help them improve their motor control and spatial awareness. Now, we’d like to talk a little about the types of personal and social growth – and some of the wonderful stories – that come from the ASL classroom.
Why We Teach American Sign Language: Part One
June 29th, 2010How many 11-year-olds have the concentration, attention, and energy to learn another language, a language with no familiar sounds, words, or sentence structures?
Weekly Highlights: January 11-15
January 12th, 2010For parents who’d like to keep up to date on the lessons your kids are learning and the fun they’re having, here’s a few highlights:
This week, the kids have been learning a lot of practical skills - reading, ASL, and sports.
· In Sonday, all the students have been making remarkable progress in their reading skills.
· At recess, we’ve been learning the rules of basketball & playing some too!
· In ASL class, we were introduced to new signs about outdoor adventures. For example, we learned to sign “backyard”, “explore”, “forest”, and many terms for adventurous animals.
Not only that, but there’s been some creative work too. One group is making holiday placemats using leaves, glitter, construction paper, feathers, markers, and crayons.
What should you ask your kids about this week?
Ask them to show you two new ASL signs!
A Walk around TWLS
December 2nd, 2009A few months back, we moved into a great new building on Highway 55 in Plymouth. For those of you who have not had the chance to visit yet, try this virtual walk around our campus, as of a blustery day in late November.
A TWLS Daily Schedule

November Connections
November 17th, 2009Don’t forget: TWLS Connections, our quarterly newsletter, came out yesterday. Take a look at it here.
Highlights:
-Read about the growing American Sign Language (ASL) program at TWLS, started just last year to enhance brain processing and allow students to overcome their communications barriers to make new friends.
-Until 8pm tonight, GiveMN has agreed to match all donations made through their website to the Whole Learning School. Take a look at www.giveMN.org.
