Assessing Your Child
Standardized tests often do not provide an accurate snapshot of a child's abilities and capabilities. This is why assessment at TWLS is ongoing and exists in a variety of formats. In an effort to develop and maintain a realistic picture of students' abilities throughout the year, we use several means of assessment.
Performance-based evaluation, informal observation, progress testing, psycho-educational assessment and self-evaluation give us a well-rounded perspective on each student. Additionally, we use a portfolio format that allows children to showcase their work and look back on their accomplishments throughout the year as a measure of progress.
TWLS students are exempt from participating in state-mandated, standardized tests.
Individual Learning Plans
At TWLS, we believe that whole learning extends to an exciting reality outside the classroom. That's why, with an emphasis on creativity and flexibility, we have developed the Individualized Learning Plan (ILP).
The ILP empowers every child to be an active part of his or her community, school, and home. Because an opportunity to learn exists in every aspect of a child's life, TWLS promotes your child's interest in the world around her. We also understand that it is important for you, as parents, to remain engaged in your child's development. That's why we have conferences three times/year and our teachers give regular updates via phone and email.
