Board of Directors

The board of directors helps make decisions impacting the staff, students, and future of TWLS. Those who volunteer for our board come from varied backgrounds, yet all are united in wanting the best for TWLS. If you’re interested in becoming a board member, contact us at A.Rooney@twls.org or 952.345.2295 for more info.

Steve Benjamin – TWLS Treasurer
Steve Benjamin is a thoughtful, committed financial advisor with more than 20 years experience in the investment field. He currently serves as TWLS treasurer and he is the proud parent of a TWLS student.

There are so many kids who could benefit from attending this school. When our son started in January of 2007, I was hoping to see some progress, but what I saw in just a few weeks astounded me. It’s all about results…and this school gets them.

Benjamin graduated from Hamline University and is currently employed at Sit Investment Associates in Minneapolis. He is a Certified Employee Benefit Specialist and Chartered Retirement Planning Counselor.

Alan Hill
Alan Hill is an innovative, results-driven business leader with 20+ years experience in Fortune 500 organizations and small businesses including manufacturing, retail and medical device industries and the US Army. Hill decided to accept the invitation to join the TWLS board of directors because he could see the difference TWLS makes in the lives of its students and their families.

When I saw the dramatically positive effects TWLS has on students and their parents, I knew I had to get involved and help this school make a difference in the community. Until TWLS, I never heard a student say they loved their school!

A highly respected team developer, coach and mentor, Hill excels at achieving cohesion among disparate groups to work collectively toward a common goal. He currently works as a business coach with Action Coach and he is an active member of the TwinWest Chamber of Commerce.

Julie Bensen
As the mother of one TWLS’s first students, Julie is a witness to the power that The Whole Learning School's safe, trusting school environment provides to kids.

It is hard to believe that my daughter, Annie, is the same shy, quiet girl of five years ago. From the minute she started at TWLS, Annie felt safe. The multi-dimensional approach to learning showed her that she had areas that she excelled in. Through yoga, she learned that she had amazing endurance. Through music, she learned she can recognize and keep a beat. This all translated into tremendous growth in her self confidence. That self confidence transferred over to math, spelling, reading, etc. Her social skills have skyrocketed and she is now comfortable in social situations. This has been an amazing transformation and it would not have happened without the love and support of the teachers and staff at TWLS.

Currently, Julie is a project manager at Thrivent Financial for Lutherans. She assumed the role of board chair in June 2008.
