Mission and Program

Our Program

John and Maryanne Dennis founded The Whole Learning School out of love for their daughter, Krystyna, (all pictured above) who needed a specialized school environment to meet her academic, social and emotional needs. The Whole Learning School was created for students who are failing to succeed in traditional school models.

The educational program at TWLS provides a nurturing, safe environment where children can reach their greatest potential. Using small class sizes (9:1 or less) and master-degreed special education teachers, TWLS provides individualized curriculum designed for the specific needs of each child.

In addition to core academics, TWLS teaches critical life and social skills to prepare students for adulthood using the transition domains of daily living skills, community involvement, recreation and leisure and vocational skill development. Students learn self-management skills through relationship development, social skill building, personal reflection and sensory diet awareness. TWLS focuses on the student’s whole life, creating benchmarks for their achievement at school, home and in the community.

Using a multiple intelligence model and responsive classroom techniques, students learn how to think, learn and reflect on the strategies that make them successful. The curriculum at TWLS is designed for students who will benefit from individual instruction using a multi-sensory approach for academic instruction, social skill development, practical life skills and vocation preparation.

The Whole Learning School has quietly existed in the Twin Cities since 2003. Centrally located in eastern Plymouth (near 169 & 55), we are now expanding enrollment to more students.

Mission

The Whole Learning School is a private, nonprofit school community that provides a caring, nurturing environment designed to accommodate the individual learning styles of students with developmental and learning disabilities. Students learn how to achieve their highest potential, both academically and functionally, by integrating individually-targeted traditional curriculum with essential life and social skills, resulting in an independent adult life.
