2nd Spring Spectacular Coming Up
Friday, March 19th, 2010
Spring is finally here, and with spring comes the TWLS 2nd Annual Spring Spectacular! On Saturday, June 5th, the TWLS kids will spend the evening dining and dancing with their classmates at our prom.
Kids young and old will learn how to behave in a formal social event, starting in the morning where the girls will gather for a Day of Beauty at the spa, courtesy of several parents. As evening approaches, all the students will meet at River Park for pictures together, and then go on to Lexington Restaurant in St. Paul.
There, they’ll exchange corsages (we are hosting a secret boutinniere corsage exchange, where each girl will write the color of her dress and her preferred type of corsage and each boy his tie color, draw them in advance and secret, and then have to buy and find the right person for the right corsage), and have dinner together. During dinner with families and faculty, they’ll learn important skills that many people take for granted, such as proper table etiquette, how to introduce friends to each other, and how to start conversations. Some of the kids are already great at these skills and will have the chance to hone them, while others will learn and practice for the first time.
After dinner, it’ll be time to dance! The Nehrbasses, owners of On Your Toes School of Dance, may be teaching our students a few social dancing moves on the dance floor, and then DJ Chris from Kids Dance will start up his playlist. DJ Chris was our great DJ last year as well, and he’ll again be playing fun kids music such as the Macarena and the chicken dance as well as running activities such as a scavenger hunt for those who get tired of dancing. To finish off the evening, expect an after-party at Annie Hartfiel’s house, with banana flambé and bonfires, family and friends.
The 2nd Annual Spring Spectacular is a formal/dinner dance that is open to all TWLS teens, both current and past.
Special note from Kim Gallant, organizer: We are still searching for a good limo company. If you have any connections with a limo company, please let us know!
